RE: Best Place to buy a rv on the west coast

We bought our used 2002 Class C from a car dealership that also had a few RVs. If you come down to Washington, Tacoma/Olympia is cheaper than Seattle Everett area, but right know, its a buyers dream out there.

RE: Day Night Shades

I saw the honey comb shades at Costco yesterday but the price was more than I wanted to spend. I think the insulated Drapes are the best idea.

RE: Winter concerns...Black water tank

Don't spend the money. More than likely its just dirty and wasn't emptied properly. Try this, go get some ice, a bag should do it and dump it down the toilet. If its cold out you might have to wait awhile for it to start melting but when it does drive around looking for a dump. RV parks have them, interstate rest stops have them and there is an on-line site that tells where you can find them. As you drive around the ice will clean the sides.
Fine a friend who has dumped before to go with you as the first time it could be a little weird. Have them walk you through it, but if you don't know anyone, pull up to the dumb and when someone comes along to dump, ask if you can watch. We all help eachother
Just remember gloves, and waterless hand cleaner

RE: Fleas - Help me please

I vote for the bomb also and then a trip to the vets for the cat to get something stronger and then another bomb.
I got bit up at a hotel once and it was horrid.

RE: Tips for making it warmer while driving in winter

Check your vents often, We bought some foam and cut 18 " squares and stuffed them in the holes to keep out any drafts But we have some very old vents in the bath and above the cab and sometimes the vibration works them open, so every time we stop, we now check to make sure they are closed tightly.
Make sure your windows are closed. You don't know how many times I opened them while cooking and forgot to close them.

RE: KOA

We like the KOA' and became members. I don't know if we will renew this year though, there are lots of RV places that we don't have to join that are just as nice. Get a good Campground guide, Woodells or Good Sam. We usually check the map the night before, figure out how far we would like to drive, and then call ahead to see if they have room. Its worked well for us but we usually stop about 1pm to 2 pm in winter.

RE: Day Night Shades

Thanks for the help guys. We have 5 windows and 3 different sizes. You would think... I looked at Roman Shades at Penny's but of course they had to be special ordered as they were either to narrow or to wide.
I think Ill try ebay.

Day Night Shades

I did a Day/Night Shade search and the only posts were about replacing the strings.
We need to replace our old metal ugly blinds and I would like something that would provide some insulation as we do some winter camping, and looking thru MotorHome Magazine there were adds for the Day/Night Shades.
What are your thought? Are they as great as advertised? Do they have any insulating properties? Do the strings break often. Are they expensive.
Your thoughts as always are appreciated.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

We're fine also, DH is retired military, DW is retired from a major charity, both over 65, but our investments have tanked. Have one one brother and one son and one grandson out of work. Every other house in our area is for sale. The new car sales down the street just laid off most of their workers cause no one is buying their trucks.
I don't think we have seen the bottom of this yet and when we do, then we can say how bad it was when....

RE: Has anyone used a 'SHAMWOW!!!"

I don't see why they wouldn't work. It's nothing more than a chamois. People have been using them for years.
I won't buy a Shamwow, however. It's my personal quest to never buy from a company that puts out stupid commercials.
Especially ANYTHING Billy Mays promotes!
I'm with you Gunship Guy, I won't buy anything for "19.95 and if you call right now we will double your offer" advertisement. Everything is 19.95. But I do want to try one of these. THey sell something at WalMart that looks like it, Is it the same thing

RE: TV reception...

We found that all cable connections in a campground are not all the same quality. We were at a rally and about half of us got a dozen channels and the others got from 2 to 6 channels. When we asked at the office they told us they already had a work order in. Hummmm, didn't bother to tell us though

RE: Site amperage

We also do fine with 30 amp. I am just careful to turn off the coffee pot before I turn on the microwave etc. Also if we run an electric heater I usually turn if off before I make the coffee. Just make sure you know where the reset button is and you'll soon know what you can and can't have.

Ooo that sounds good. I do the same with cream of mushroom soup except you have to cook the rice or potato or noodle separately. The gravy is to die for.

Washington Senior's, Its time

to get your State Park Senior Pass for the winter. It's $50.00 but a full service State Park will only cost you $6. a night for utilities and you can stay free if you dry camp.
Also if you earn less than $30,000 a year you can get a completely free pass.
Old age is worth the wait.

Afraid of Heights

I have a brand new fear of heights and its getting worse. Last year we decided to go to this ghost town in Oregon called Lonerock and the road down was gravel, no barriers, no guard rails, nothing but a 1000 foot (or more) drop. I made it down, but OMG ever since I have the worst time driving in the mountains or over bridges that have little or no guard rails.
I now spend my time pouring over maps trying to decide the best route with the least fear.
I hate it because I love the back roads, I love exploring over the next hill.
Is there any hope or will I have to suffer through this for the rest of my life?

RE: First Year Retirees , Staying Home , How About You?

We live in the Pacific Northwest and snow is rarely an issue, rain, gloom, gray... and I really love it here, but seeing the sun every so often would be awesome.
Saying that, being retired is the best time to stay at home in winter, enjoy the snow cause you only have to go out in it when you want to. There is the obligatory cleaning the walk, but heck, hire a kid and watch him/her while you bask in front of the fireplace
Next winter you can snowbird down south and then you will know which of the two you want to do for the rest of your life.
